Challenge

One critical app, spread across three hypervisors.

The client relied on a business-critical legacy application that had become deeply embedded in daily operations over many years. Through organic growth and historical decisions, the environment ended up distributed across three independent hypervisor platforms — a real source of operational complexity.

That fragmentation raised maintenance overhead, complicated backup and disaster recovery, and added risk during upgrades and support. Because the system underpinned essential business processes, any interruption could hit production and continuity directly.

The objective: consolidate all workloads onto a single modern virtualization platform while preserving application functionality, maintaining data integrity, and minimizing disruption.

Solution

A phased consolidation onto one platform.

A phased migration strategy was developed to carefully assess application dependencies, infrastructure requirements, and data relationships across all systems.

The project included

  • Comprehensive infrastructure audit
  • Virtual machine dependency mapping
  • Storage and network redesign
  • Hypervisor standardization
  • Incremental workload migration
  • Validation and rollback procedures
  • Backup and disaster recovery modernization

To avoid disruption, migration ran primarily during evenings and weekends over a four-month period — and each workload was validated after migration for application compatibility, performance stability, and data consistency.

Results

Three platforms down to one — no data lost.
